Course Title

Greek Philosophy and Ancient Philosophy

Course Description

An introduction to the history and substance of Greek philosophy. Emphasis is on the origins and development of philosophic thought from the Presocratics through the fourth century BCE. Special attention given to Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Post-fourth century, Hellenistic philosophies (especially Stoicism, Cynicism, Epicureanism, and neo-Platonism) and their survival into the Roman world are treated more briefly.
